In Lebanon, he is still celebrated as a literary hero. In his early teens, the artistry of Gibran's drawings caught the eye of his teachers and he was introduced to the avant-garde Boston artist, photographer, and publisher Fred Holland Day, who encouraged and supported Gibran in his creative endeavors. A publisher used some of Gibran's drawings for book covers in , and Gibran held his first art exhibition in in Boston.
In , Gibran went to study art with Auguste Rodin in Paris for two years. He later studied art in Boston. While most of Gibran's early writing was in Arabic, most of his work published after was in English. He is chiefly known in the English-speaking world for his book 'The Prophet', an early example of inspirational fiction including a series of philosophical essays written in poetic English prose. The book sold well despite a cool critical reception, gaining popularity in the s and again especially in the s counterculture.

I simply love Khalil! My sorrow no match to some one else's as it is mine. My joy no match to someone else's as it is mine I love my sorrow as I cherish my joy as both are mine. As life is mine and death is mine Report Reply. Brilliance as he reveals the needs and discoveries of life and as he unravels the importance of balance inevitable within, hence the use of a tear and a smile. A tear to purify my love and a smile to portray a blessing in that we are capable to take part of the existence of the poem as well as the genius within it.
