Fans of Born of Illusion will no doubt enjoy this quick romp with the flappers in New York before heading out to London ; This review was previously featured on my blog Feb 19, Bonnie Randall rated it liked it Shelves: short-stories. I loved Cynthia in Born of Illusion so this short was an easy sell. Cool premise - an in-house murder which one reviewer on here quite aptly tagged as reminiscnet of the old boardgame Clue - and Brown is an absolute expert at calling up the atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties and all the original goodfellas and molls therein.
The stakes were shaky here, though and gasp! I think I would have liked the entire tale a whole lot better if Cynthia would have ended up falling for sexy bad-boy Nico who I loved Cynthia in Born of Illusion so this short was an easy sell. I think I would have liked the entire tale a whole lot better if Cynthia would have ended up falling for sexy bad-boy Nico who she had oodles of chemistry with rather than remaining with staid ol' money-bags Jack.
Jul 04, Savannah rated it liked it Shelves: booktubeathon-july This short little story was okay, but not as good as I was hoping it to be. I really enjoyed Born of Illusion so I had rather high hopes for this short story, but was kind of disappointed.
I feel like I just didn't enjoy this story as much because Cynthia isn't nearly as interesting to me as Anna is. I read this story because I was excited to read Born of Deception, which I hope will be much better. Oct 22, Nathan rated it it was amazing. I really enjoyed this novella. I thought it was a great continuation of the story from "Born of Illusion" and I loved how it was told from Cynthia's perspective.
However, although it was a great read, I really wish the character of Cole was included.
He played a large role in the first novel and his exclusion from this storyline was disappointing. Overall, the story was great and I can't wait to read "Born of Deception! Jul 28, Emma Clement rated it liked it Shelves: ya. I loved this one!
It was an interesting novella with a great plot not just one of those simple novellas with no real 'meat' to the story and I was hooked on it! I definitely would recommend this series to others!
Mar 27, Rach rated it liked it. This short book was a kind of nice read from a new perspective; unfortunately I am not a big fan of side characters and Cynthia Gaylord is far from my favourite character, I think it is the way she hangs off her husband that annoys me The story itself is not bad though. Sep 17, Nicole rated it it was ok. This book was too short to make you feel invested in what was happening.
I didn't like or believe it. Feb 06, Sa rated it really liked it Shelves: my-e-books , novellas. I liked this novella very much and it was a great refresher for this series. Jan 10, Jess rated it really liked it. Not as fun as the first book. More focused on the 20's lifestyle than magic.

In fact there was little to no magic in this one at all. But still a good short story. Oct 19, Aydrea rated it really liked it. Nice little novella, liked the different perspective. Can't wait for the next book. Feb 06, Shelley marked it as to-read Shelves: release. Feb 10, Laura rated it liked it Shelves: fantasy-paranormal-magic , ya-fiction. Everything wrapped up a little too neatly, and I thought the outcome was fairly predictable, but it was a decent little novella.
