Because her number is bigger than the number of other females in her class, this was a reason to laugh and point fingers and to make someone feel less than. I shared that her number will probably always be bigger - not because of what she eats or doesn't eat, but because of her DNA. Even in the womb she was off the charts!
The women in her family are tall and strong and athletic. This is something to be proud of and celebrated. We looked at pictures of her gorgeous cousin who is 15 years old and 5'11", taller than both of her parents and all of her friends. Showing weakness is even more unbearable than being fat. She believes that this would bring about even more mockery.
I'm not convinced it would - I want to believe that this little boy is capable of more, but I'm not going to push her to be vulnerable. If you are friends with my daughter, I ask that you not bring this up to her in person. She knows that I am going to discuss the topic with you all, but I don't want to make her feel more uncomfortable than she already is. Thankful for Jenessa Denniston and her ability to so gracefully capture a story that all parents wish they could forget. Where temporarily, I could again tuck them safely away. It's mainly because I get to ask all my amazingly talented friends to contribute a post, and then I get to sit back and read their stories. And today's blog post is no different. Glynka FritzMiller and I met back in when we both worked for a relief and disaster organization Food for the Hungry in Phoenix, Arizona. I immediately wanted to be her best friend because she was equal parts witty and wise.
I have one parti Glynka and her hubby, Matt, are pretty darn amazing with money. They make a budget and actually stick to it. So when Glynka came to me and said she had been saving up for a new pair of jeans, we discussed whether or not this new pair of jeans should be the "skinny jeans". I advised her in my infinite wisdom to steer clear of them because "they are just a trend and will probably be gone by next year. Sorry, Glynks.
