Having learned from her father, Jacinda is also a very intelligent and able decipherer, so she has been helping her father crack all sorts of war ciphers and codes. Now we meet the Duke. We learn that he is an angry, drunk, war veteran, who uses alcohol and whores to numb the painful memories of the atrocities he experienced as a soldier. I know that, I understand that. My issues with him have nothing to do with his psyche. They have everything to do with him being a gigantic asshole to Jacinda, just because he can.
Blecch, whatever. They play cat and mouse for a while. Crispin continues to be an asshole. Apparently, she has a magical vagina that cures men of their asshole-ishness. They start to bone. They go to bone town many times. Again, whatever. There is a betrayal. Crispin finds out that Jacinda is actually in his house for.

Jacinda feels bad. Conflict ensues. Conflict is then resolved in an incredibly rushed an unsatisfying manner. Very important revelations are completely ignored and unresolved. Happy ending happens. My anger and annoyance have reached a catalyst. Anyways, I apologize for this full-on rant. If you liked this book, I am very happy for you — I just did not.

This story is filled with intrigue, plenty of spice, suspense, compassion, humor, and love. I look forward to the next book in the series. Feb 21, Chelsea Downey rated it it was ok. Sexy, but ridiculously rushed and contrived This book is full of passion and deep emotion, but it fails to fully live up to that promise.
The writing is full of incomplete sentences and needless repetition. The characters were written well, the sexual tension was scorching, but it was all rushed.
‘Goliath’ Review: Season 2 Is Fine and All, But Mark Duplass’ Kinky Killer Is Out of This World
I love a good Regency romance, but this had barely a toe settled in reality. From PTSD to marriage we barely cover two weeks. The villain comes out of nowhere with a hastily contrived motivation. If you wa Sexy, but ridiculously rushed and contrived This book is full of passion and deep emotion, but it fails to fully live up to that promise. If you want a well-planned Regency romance with mystery, try the Secret History of the Pink Carnation and its successive books. This was barely disguised smut, to be honest.
Jan 03, Karen Llanes rated it it was amazing. My first book by Scarlett. I absolutely loved it. The Duke of Depavity is broken and Jacinda brave and smart. Between them there is fire and passion. Its hot. The story builds its hard to put down. I found myself smiling in the witty parts and got anxious as it came to a close afraid to what was going plot to reveal its self and cried when it did.
I didnt want the story to end. This is going to be one of my favorite books. Scarlett is an awesome storyteller!!! I want to read more of h My first book by Scarlett. I want to read more of her books. Dec 26, Theresa rated it it was ok. Too much, not enough. Dec 17, E J rated it it was amazing. Hot and humorous Crispin, the Duke of Whitley, is living a life of complete debauchery as a result of survivors guilt.
He came back from the war, but his best friend did not. He does have the responsibility of his estates and more importantly, his two unruly younger sisters, who are still in the school room. Jacinda is a young woman, newly widowed, as she lost her soldier husband to battle. She lives and assists her aging father in his work as a message decoder for the English government. As h Hot and humorous As her father becomes less able to perform, she must do more, and keep that from their superiors. She must pose as a governess to the duke and spy on him. Crispin has a reputation as a rake, and he definitely lives up to it.
His internal monologue had me laughing as his thoughts were often raging with lust at the most inappropriate of times. He is dark, and sexy in a reprobate sort of way, that just might be too hard for Jacinda to resist. She has a job to do, and she must , to protect her father, but as the days go by she is finding it increasingly difficult to justify her actions.
The plot has intrigue and a cast of characters that provide color and humor as well. I highly recommend it and reading it with at the very least a glass of ice water or iced anything nearby. I am definitely looking forward to the next in this series, as I see a couple of interesting stories on the horizon, or at least I hope so. Dec 13, Debbie Glenn Brown rated it it was amazing. Crispen Ashforth, Duke of Whitley has returned from war a broken man. He lives each day in the dark, drinking his liquor and inviting lady of dubious reputation to his bed.
He needs to hire a governess for his two sisters. She needs evidence to prove wither or not the Duke of Whitley is a traitor. Oh my sparks fly between Crispin and Jacinda right from the beginning when he purposely keeps mispronouncing her name. Their antics make this a fun and adventurous romantic read. Crispin is tortured by his past and Jacinda maybe just the one to pull him back into the light of day and start living again. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review. Dec 29, Lana Birky rated it really liked it.
He needs to find a governess for his hoyden sisters and into his life walks Jacinda Turnbow - but she has secrets, in order to save her father and herself from being thrown from their house into the streets, she agrees to pretend to be a governess while searching the Duke's house to find proof he is a traitor. I liked the story; however, I am really tired of the men coming from war drinking and womanizing beyond pale - I understand the darkness and dreams but no morals is quite another thing. I did end up liking Crispin but his "feeling sorry" for himself int he beginning didn't earn him any points with me.
I like the mystery, romance and even though they lusted into bed right away, the romance grew to be a great love story. Jan 25, Janet Denise Ross rated it liked it. Scott novel that is exciting with plenty of action beginning with war then switching over to spies building up suspense brilliantly for the reader. Finally, the 2 girls are a delightful mess and you can't help but love them.

Jacinda has been helping her dad with his work deciphering encrypted notes for the war and is blackmailed into working for the Duke as a governess for his two sisters. As Jacinda begins to understand why Crispin is the way he is her feelings for him start to change. This book is definitely a steamy romance. With that being said it was well written and I very much enjoyed this story. Dec 17, Maria rated it really liked it. Not all is as it seems in this story. Crispin and Jacinda have an up and down story. He is dealing with a sort of PTSD and Jacinda is having to do something she truly dies not want to, but she has little choice.
What makes this story even more eventful are the two hellions who are Crispin's sisters. This gives us some funny moments. We also have passion as well as intrigue which definitely bode well for a well balanced story. No need for me to summarize the plot when all the other reviews have d Not all is as it seems in this story.
No need for me to summarize the plot when all the other reviews have done so. Just know that this is a story that will peak your interest. Dec 18, Denise rated it really liked it. The title of this book states it all. The Duke is extremely depraved and not a sympathetic nor likable character.

Crispin is wallowing in self loathing, self pity and is meeting his base needs. He has all but ignored his younger sisters, who have become a bit wild and unmanageable. Understanding that he must hire another governess for them, he advertises. She arrives under false pretenses, charms the sisters-and him. Feb 22, Keri rated it really liked it. I greatly enjoyed the storyline, characters, etc. It kept my attention throughout and even kept me awake reading "just one more chapter"! The only thing I didn't care for was the use of some crude sexual terminology. The sex was tastefully done,I guess I'm just a little prudish went it comes to the vernacular used to describe body parts. Friend Reviews. In the first two episodes, Tom is just another white collar criminal with a taste for getting a little dirt under his Oxford buttons.
Tom uses his connections with the cops as well as his political ally to do just that, but his main passion is disconnected from his business dealings — almost. As revealed in a stunning sequence of events in Episode 3, Tom has a thing for amputees. He even rebuilt his childhood kitchen where his sister used to get her daily moisturizer. If Billy is David and Gabriel is Goliath, then Tom is the blade used to decapitate the giant and shock the onlookers. Consider us shook.
