But I have to say, with 16 years of experience as a French 1 teacher most of them at the middle school level although it shouldn't be too difficult for any student who has been paying attention in class, doing all his work, and studying , I know of very few students who would do well on it. Not even the best students. Even most high school students, which is the level I have taught most recently, would find it too difficult.

Though I teach French, I know enough of Spanish 1 curriculum to know that the vocabulary and grammar concepts are definitely appropriate; but the recall-dependent form of the test will overwhelm most kids, at least for a final exam, where there is so much information for them to remember. Don't get me wrong This is the type of test I wish I could give. I set the bar very high for my students and they generally learn the material and develop excellent communication skills. Level 2 teachers consistently tell me that my kids are better prepared than any others they get; but today's kids just can't typically handle this type of test.

You also don't want to ask them to do anything on the exam that they haven't had to do in class. Additionally, logistically, this exam would be a nightmare to grade, unless you have a VERY small number of students taking it. And how are you going to monitor the students taking the test and do the oral speaking test at the same time? I typically have to get the oral parts of my exam out of the way during the week before the exam, so I can focus my attention on that while the rest of the class works independently on review material.

But again In theory it is an appropriately challenging exam, but in practical application in today's schools with today's kids, I don't think they will do well on it. I'm really sorry I'm sure that's not what you want to hear after all that hard work. You can still use the basics of the test, I would just tweak it. For example, question If the kid doesn't remember the vocabulary words such as "money" or "step-father" he's likely to skip the question altogether.
